Hi, I’m Melissa!
Tell me if this sounds familiar. You’re a female entrepreneur with genius thoughts and ideas when it comes to your business. But when it’s time for you to try and form your brilliant ideas into a decent message on your computer screen, you can’t seem to get it quite right.
Writing is a major downer for you. It’s too hard. It takes too much time. It just isn’t your thing. Your business is your thing.
Well close that laptop and toss the confetti…help is here!
Here is a fact: I heart writing.
Who knew that the girl who wrote her first short story at eight-years-old, handed in two stories for every one assigned in 8th grade Language Arts (nerd alert!), studied Journalism and ended up majoring in Creative Writing, and got a job proofreading as her first job out of college would start her own freelance writing business? Anyone paying attention. That’s who.
How did I get here?
I became a parent later in life. I had my first baby when I was 39. Raise your hand if you’ve had a doctor look you in the eye and say the words “geriatric pregnancy” in all seriousness and you wanted to punch said doctor. (Just kidding. Sort of.)
On my 43rd birthday I finally achieved my life-long dream and became a stay-at-home mom with two little kids. After a couple years of that, I knew I was exactly where I wanted to be, but I was getting the “I want to write to make money” itch. Because, you know. My family likes to eat and stuff. So, I started freelance writing and here we are.
What am I all about?
My faith in Jesus Christ is the most important part of my life and who I am. My family is close behind, in second. My kids are the reason I began my freelance writing business. So much so, that I named my business after them! And my husband is my biggest cheerleader and supporter of my biz.
But what you need to know about me is this bottom line: writing lights me up. The purpose of Bets & Ben Creative is to help women who feel overwhelmed, defeated, and down-right hopeless when it comes to creating copy and content for their business.
I am an Enneagram type 9, if you’re into the personality type thing, and I’m a total people-pleaser. That means your business matters to me and I want it right when it comes to saying what you want to say. If you need help expressing what your product or service can do for others, let me help you!
Kinda, sorta random fun facts about me
I love to read, and I love TV. Because…balance.
I have Scandinavian heritage. And like all good Scandinavians should, I have “afternoon coffee time” almost every day. Sometimes while watching my guilty pleasure, Dr. Phil. (Dateline is my other guilty pleasure.)
I have lived my entire life in Western Wisconsin or in the Twin Cities (MN). And sometimes when I speak, even I can her my “ya, you betcha” accent.
I love musicals – both in film and live theater productions.
I will watch just about any movie that stars Matt Damon.
